Mitchell Marsh produced one of the most explosive innings of IPL 2026 as Lucknow Super Giants desperately look for a result to keep their fading playoff hopes alive against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Ekana Stadium on Wednesday, May 7.
The Australian all-rounder raced to the fastest fifty of his IPL career in just 20 balls and was unbeaten on 76 off 32 deliveries when rain interrupted proceedings. His brutal assault powered LSG to 95/0 in nine overs before players were forced off the field.
Marsh struck seven sixes and seven fours in his assault against RCB. That meant, 70 of his runs came from boundaries alone, but only six runs were scored off the remaining 18 balls he had faced till the rain break.

Marsh's innings comes at a critical point in LSG's season. Rishabh Pant's side entered the contest rooted to the bottom of the table with just four points from nine matches and facing near-certain elimination with another defeat. LSG haven't won any of their previous eight home games at the Ekana Stadium, with their last victory in Lucknow coming against Gujarat Titans in April 2025.
The 34-year-old wasted no time imposing himself on the RCB attack. So far, the Aussie has hammered seven fours and seven sixes, striking at 237.50, taking full advantage of the powerplay and punishing anything loose.
Josh Hazlewood bore the brunt early as Marsh hit him for three boundaries in the sixth over to bring up his milestone fifty off just 20 balls.
Krunal Pandya also came under severe pressure as Marsh first carved him through the off-side before launching the very next delivery over midwicket for a towering six. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rasikh Salam were similarly dispatched, with Marsh hitting Rasikh for back-to-back sixes and a four in the fifth over.
After being retained by LSG for Rs 3.40 crore, the Australian had entered the match with 256 runs from nine games this season at a strike rate of 139.13.
His latest blitz revived memories of his extraordinary 2025 campaign, when he smashed 627 runs in 13 matches at a strike rate of 163. That season included a century, six fifties and a record 37 sixes, the most by an Australian in a single IPL edition and the highest tally ever by an LSG batter in one season.
For now, though, the focus remains on the weather in Lucknow. The rain interruption came just as LSG had seized complete momentum against RCB in a contest they simply cannot afford to lose.
With play resuming, Marsh looks well placed to convert his career-fastest IPL fifty into a potentially season-defining century for Lucknow.
