Fresh off their Carabao Cup triumph, Manchester City return to domestic cup action this weekend as they welcome Premier League rivals Liverpool to the Etihad in a high-stakes FA Cup quarter-final clash. The Citizens will be riding high on confidence, after beating Arsenal 2-0 to seal a record fifth EFL Cup triumph for manager Pep Guardiola.

The Citizens saw their Champions League campaign cut short in the Round-of-16, falling to a 5-1 aggregate defeat at the hands of Madrid. However, they still remain in contention for the Premier League title, sitting second on the table, nine points behind Arsenal with a game in hand.

Liverpool, meanwhile, approach this fixture with a different urgency. Arne Slot's side are enduring a difficult campaign in the League, sitting in fifth spot, four points behind Aston Villa who occupy the final UCL qualifying spot.

The Reds are still alive in the Champions League but face a tough challenge in the form of PSG in the quarter-final stage of the competition. The FA Cup presents an opportunity to salvage their season and provide a fitting send off to their Egyptian King Mohammed Salah who announced he will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

City have already completed a league double over Liverpool this season, underlining their control in this fixture. Yet knockout football offers a reset, and Liverpool's quick counter-attacking style, led by Florian Wirtz and Mohamed Salah, could test a reshuffled City defence.

Both managers have a long list of absentees to contend with, with Josko Gvardiol out for City, while John Stones and Ruben Dias will be assessed ahead of the game.

As for Liverpool, Alisson Becker, Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni and Wataru Endo are all out with injuries. However, there's a silver lining with Alexander Isak returning to training after three months out with a broken foot, but this game might come too soon for the £125 million striker.
