Tottenham Hotspur began the 2025-26 season facing Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup. Come mid-April, they are locked in a very different battle, fighting for survival in the English Premier League. Spurs now sit 18th in the Premier League table, inside the relegation zone and seemingly headed to the EFL Championship, with just six games to go.
The slide reached a new low on April 12, as Tottenham slipped to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Sunderland, the result coming a day after West Ham United's 4-0 win over Wolves pushed Spurs into the bottom three for the first time. The result at the Stadium of Light means Spurs no longer have control over their own fate.
With just 30 points from 32 matches, Spurs are two points adrift of safety and now need either West Ham (32 pts), Nottingham Forest (33 pts) or Leeds United (33 pts) to drop points, to give them a chance of avoiding the drop.
The downturn has been cumulative rather than sudden. Tottenham's winless league run now stands at 14 matches (five draws, nine defeats), leaving them close to their worst top-flight sequence of 16 games without a win, set in 1934-35.

Their last Premier League victory came on December 28, with the team yet to pick up a league win since the turn of the year.
Their managerial turnover has compounded the instability. Thomas Frank, appointed in June 2025, was dismissed in February after a run that left Spurs 16th despite progress to the Champions League Round of 16.
Igor Tudor's interim tenure delivered one point in five league matches before ending in March. Roberto De Zerbi, appointed on March 31 on a long-term deal, started his tenure with the 1-0 defeat against Sunderland.
Now with just six games to go, the margins remain dangerously narrow for Spurs to stage a late rescue act.
Their survival now hinges on a rapid upturn under De Zerbi and results elsewhere going their way, leaving the reigning Europa League champions with little room left for further setbacks.
Fans, meanwhile, have turned to humour as results continue to slide, with social media flooded with memes tracking Spurs' fall.
