Motilal Oswal Report

The much anticipated telecom spectrum auction commenced yesterday with much more aggressive response than expected from telecom companies.

The key highlights are as follows -

The Department of Telecom received a total bid of Rs 770 billion versus the government expectation of Rs 450 billion. This is already ~70% higher than the renewal spectrum requirement across the three telecom operators.

The 800 megahertz band has seen the highest interest, with the bid amount at Rs 375 billion.

1800MHz/2300MHz saw bid amounts of 182 billion/71 billion, while 900MHz of Rs 51 billion.

The remaining bands (700MHz/2100MHz/2500MHz) understandably saw lukewarm or no response.
