Karunanidhi Laid to Rest at Marina Beach, Next to Anna Memorial
The former chief minister of Tamil Nadu passed away at Chennai’s Kauvery Hospital at 6.10 pm on 7 August, 2018.
DMK Supremo M Karunanidhi was laid to rest at Chennai’s Marina Beach on Wednesday, 8 August. The former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu was buried alongside his mentor and DMK founder CN Annadurai.
“He, who worked without rest, rests here," reads the inscription on Karunanidhi's coffin.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu and TMC leader Derek O’brien along with other top political leaders attended the last rites at Marina Beach.

Madras High Court Allows Burial at Marina Beach
The Madras High Court allowed the burial of DMK chief M Karunanidhi on the Marina Beach.
A division bench of the court comprising Acting Chief Justice H G Ramesh and SS Sundar passed the order on a petition filed by the DMK at a special hearing.
DMK had moved the court last night after the AIADMK government rejected its request for allowing the burial of Karunanidhi on the famed Marina sands alongside his mentor and former chief minister CN Annadurai.

In a letter addressed to MK Stalin, Congress’ Sonia Gandhi expressed grief over the death of M Karunanidhi.
“For me, Kalaignar’s loss is very personal. He always showed me great kindness and consideration, which I can never forget. He was like a father figure to me,” Gandhi wrote.
