Char Dham Yatra: Ban On VIP Darshans Extended Till May 31, Videography Prohibited In Temple Complex

Every year lakhs of pilgrims from across India go for the Char Dham Yatra, which consists of a visit to four sacred sites in Uttarakhand -- Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.

The Uttarakhand government has extended a ban on VIP darshans to the Char Dham Yatra till May 31.

In a release shared by news agency ANI on X, state chief secretary, Radha Raturi said that videography and creation of reels within and around the 50-metre radius of the 'char dham' temples has been prohibited.

As per media reports, the decision was taken based on the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and in consideration of the religious sentiments of devotees. 

The chief secretary has ordered the secretary of tourism, commissioner Garhwal division & DMs and SPs of the districts concerned regarding the ban on social media reels and videography, the post on X added. 

The post states that Uttarakhand is expected to experience heavy pilgrim rush in the first few weeks of the Char Dham Yatra 2024. Hence, VIP darshans have been banned until May 31 to ensure streamlined darshan and better management. 

The Uttarakhand government has initiated a process where devotees have to register for the yatra. This registration is mandatory, and devotees can visit the official website: https://registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in/. Devotees will be allowed darshans on their registration date, the post said.

According to the ANI post, the elderly and devotees with medical conditions should get themselves checked before beginning their journey. They must follow the guidelines initiated by the Uttarakhand department of medical health and family welfare. 

About Char Dham Yatra

The Yatra began on May 10 and over 3 lakh people have visited the shrines, according to an India TV report. The report also mentioned that over 27 lakh devotees have registered till Thursday evening. 

People from different parts of the nation visit the shrines and complete the Yatra in a clockwise direction. Ideally, a devotee can begin their journey from Yamunotri, move to Gangotri, Kedarnath, and finally reach Badrinath on a clockwise journey. The journey is permitted between April-May and October-November. 

How To Register for Char Dham Yatra?

  • Step 1: Visit the official website: https://registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in/

  • Step 2: Click on the ‘Register/Login’ option on the top right corner of the website.

  • Step 3: Select whether you are an ‘Indian Pilgrim’ or ‘Foreign Pilgrim’.

  • Step 4: Enter the mentioned details such as name, state, mobile number, and captcha.

  • Step 5: Enter the ‘OTP’ received and verify details.

  • Step 6: Add journey details and upload necessary documents.

  • Step 7: Once the registration process is completed, the applicant will receive a URN (Unique Registration Number) through an SMS on their registered mobile number.

Applicants can download the registration PDF from the website as proof to ensure a seamless journey.
