USFDA approves Ascorbic Acid Injection

Zydus Lifesciences said it received final approval from the US Food and Drug Administration for its Abbreviated New Drug Application for Ascorbic Acid Injection USP, as per BSE exchange filings.

The approval covers two strengths. These include 25,000 mg/50 mL and 5,000 mg/10 mL. Both strengths have a concentration of 500 mg/mL.

The injection is used for the short-term treatment of scurvy. It is indicated for adults and pediatric patients aged five months and older.

The treatment is intended for patients who cannot take oral vitamin C. It also applies when oral administration is insufficient or contraindicated.

180-day CGT exclusivity

The USFDA has designated the application as a Competitive Generic Therapy. This makes Zydus eligible for 180 days of CGT exclusivity. The exclusivity period will begin from the first commercial marketing of the product, subject to applicable FDA provisions.

The approved injection is a generic version of Ascor Injection. The reference product recorded US sales of around $11.6 million for the year ended June 2026.
