Good morning!

The GIFT Nifty is trading at a decline of 65.60 points at 24,144 as of 6:00 a.m., indicating negative open for the benchmark Nifty 50. The NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex fell 0.14% and 0.22% respectively. US and European index futures are trading higher during Asian trading hours.

  • S&P 500 futures trade 0.28% lower.
  • Euro Stoxx 50 futures trade 0.26% down.
     

US Market Wrap

Wall Street started the week on a cautious note as a selloff in chipmakers overshadowed a dip in oil, with traders assessing Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's plan to isolate Iran from the global economy. Semiconductor stocks sank just days before Nvidia's earnings. The sector was hit by a report that some of the chipmaker's biggest customers face AI-related price hikes of over 15%. A memory-chip ETF dropped 5.9%. The Nasdaq 100 lost 1%. The S&P 500 fell 0.3% as of 4 p.m. New York time

Asian Market Wrap

Asian stocks were poised to fall after Wall Street retreated, with losses in tech outweighing a drop in oil prices.Index futures pointed lower in Japan and South Korea, while Australia edged higher. Hang Seng futures rose 0.6%. The Japanese yen was little changed at 159.08 per dollar while the offshore yuan was little changed at 6.7212 per dollar, as per Bloomberg.

Commodity Check

Oil held its decline as the US stepped up economic pressure on Iran and its trading partners to force energy flows to resume through the Strait of Hormuz. Brent held near $92 a barrel after falling more than 2% in the prior session, while WTI was around $85.

Gold traded near a three-month high as traders assessed the Treasury's next move after its surprise bond-market intervention revived fiscal concerns. Bullion edged higher near $4,680 an ounce, having gained more than 7% over four sessions since the Treasury increased buybacks of long-dated debt. Gold climbed 0.5% to $4,676.92 an ounce at 7:45 a.m. Singapore time. Silver rose 0.9% to $69.53. Platinum and palladium also advanced, according to Bloomberg.

Indian Stock Market Recap

The Nifty 50 settled 32.95 points, or 0.14%, lower at 24,219.05, recovering 36.25 points from its provisional close. The Sensex ended 170.70 points, or 0.22%, lower at 77,370.13, improving 42.03 points from its provisional close. Both benchmarks snapped a two-day gaining streak.
