Good Morning!

US and European index futures are trading higher during Asian trading hours.

  • S&P 500 futures trade up 1.97%
  • Euro Stoxx 50 futures down 1.23%

Market Recap

India's benchmark Nifty and Sensex ended higher for the day and the extended week on Friday, swimming through the Union Budget, India-US trade deal, Anthropic AI shock to IT and Reserve Bank of India repo rate policy. The Nifty ended 31 points or 0.1% higher at 25,674 while the BSE Sensex added 266 points or 0.3% to close at 83,580. Broader markets underperformed the benchmark, with the Nifty Midcap 150 ending flat and the Nifty Smallcap 250 closing 0.29% lower. Among frontline stocks, ITC and Kotak Bank were the top gainers on the Nifty, lending support to the index.

US Market Wrap

US stocks, which bounced back on Friday after a steep mid‑week drop, may face additional pressure in the coming days as trend‑driven algorithmic investors step up their selling, according to Goldman Sachs Group Inc.'s trading desk. Goldman says the S&P 500 has already slipped past a key short‑term threshold that triggers selling by Commodity Trading Advisers (CTAs), as per reports from Bloomberg.

The firm expects these rules‑based funds to continue offloading equities throughout the week, regardless of how the broader market moves. If the market resumes its decline, roughly $33 billion in CTA‑related stock selling could be unleashed this week. And should the S&P 500 fall below 6,707, Goldman estimates as much as $80 billion in additional systematic selling could unfold over the next month.

Asian Market Update

Asian equities climbed at the open on Monday, tracking Wall Street's strong rebound at the end of a turbulent week. Markets in Japan and South Korea led the advance, with sentiment boosted further in Tokyo after Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi secured a decisive election win. US equity futures also opened higher, extending Friday's momentum, when the S&P 500 rallied nearly 2% on renewed dip‑buying and an improvement in consumer sentiment data. South Korea's Kospi Index — often seen as a benchmark for enthusiasm around artificial intelligence–linked stocks — surged about 4%, outperforming the region, as reported by Bloomberg.

Commodity Check

Gold pushed above $5,000 an ounce as bargain hunters stepped back into the market following an unusually turbulent week for precious metals. Spot prices rose as much as 1.7% in early trading. The metal also found support from the decisive re‑election of Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

Oil, meanwhile, moved lower as easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East reduced the immediate risk of supply disruptions. Brent crude slipped toward $67 a barrel after nearly a 4% drop last week, while West Texas Intermediate traded around $63. The pullback came after Iran and the United States held talks in Oman on Friday aimed at cooling tensions surrounding Tehran's nuclear program. Iran described the discussions as “a step forward,” helping calm the market's risk premium, as reported by Bloomberg.
