Stock Market Highlights: Nifty, Sensex Register Longest Weekly Gaining Streak In Nearly Seven Months

• Nifty 50 ended 34.35 points, or 0.14%, higher at 24,056, while the Sensex gained 109.25 points, or 0.14%, to close at 77,100.47 on Thursday.
• For the week, Nifty gained 0.1% and the Sensex rose 0.42%. The benchmarks posted their third straight weekly gain, the longest such streak since the first week of December and in nearly seven months. Markets will remain shut on Friday for Muharram.

• Benchmarks came off the day’s highs after rising as much as 1% intraday.
• Nifty 50 traded 26.60 points, or 0.11%, higher at 24,048.25, after rising as much as 1% to 24,261.60. The Sensex gained 67.94 points, or 0.09%, to 77,059.16, after rising as much as 1.05%, or 912 points, earlier.

• WTI crude for August delivery fell 1.66% to around $69 a barrel, while Brent crude declined 1.79% to below $73 a barrel.
• Both contracts traded near levels seen before the Middle East war began in late February.

• Nasdaq 100 futures advanced 1.8%, while S&P 500 futures gained 0.5%.
• Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were little changed.

• Reliance Industries plans to make low-alcohol beverages in India, Informist reported, citing sources.
• The alcohol brand is expected to be different from Campa Cola. RIL may also look at acquiring an alcohol manufacturing company, according to the report.

Jindal Saw said the American Petroleum Institute has reinstated all of the company’s licences, according to an exchange filing.

• Nuvama said ADAMA has launched Pyroxasulfone in the US market and that pricing pressure in the product is expected to build up. It expects margin pressure at PI Industries to continue through the year.
• 360 One said ADAMA’s launch of a high-load liquid Pyroxasulfone herbicide has intensified competition in the US market. It said the launch could lead to price erosion in the US, which may affect PI Industries’ supplies, and remained cautious on the company’s near-term growth prospects.

• European markets traded higher, with the STOXX 600 up 0.48% at 638.23.
• Germany’s DAX rose 0.48%, France’s CAC gained 0.26% and the UK’s FTSE advanced 0.20%. Italy’s FTSE MIB climbed 0.36%, while Spain’s IBEX 35 was up 0.07%.

• Asian markets ended mixed on Thursday, with South Korea’s Kospi rising 5.42% to 8,930.30 and Japan’s Nikkei 225 gaining 4.61% to 72,366.34.
• Shanghai advanced 0.23% to 4,120.281, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 1.43% to 23,076.91 and Australia’s ASX 200 declined 0.68% to 8,748.70.

• Maersk said one of its own vessels and one time-chartered vessel successfully exited the Persian Gulf, Bloomberg reported.
• The company said the transits were completed after security assessments and in coordination with security partners. It said both journeys were completed without issues.

• US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said no country has the right to charge for the use of international waterways while addressing Gulf Cooperation Council foreign ministers in Manama.
• Rubio said such fees, whether called a toll or charge, would not be an acceptable condition of any deal.

Amazon said it will invest an additional $13 billion to expand AI and cloud infrastructure in India, taking its total planned investment in the country to $48 billion between 2026 and 2030.

The additional investment will expand AWS data centre capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on June 25 and highlighted growth across the company’s e-commerce, AI and cloud businesses in India.

The India Meteorological Department said conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance into more parts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh over the next 3–4 days.

It also expects the monsoon to cover the remaining parts of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar, and some parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the period.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely along the west coast, northeast India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the week. IMD also said light rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is likely across Delhi-NCR and parts of Haryana and Rajasthan over the next two hours.

• Aurobindo Pharma rose 1.89%, while Dr Reddy’s gained 1.50% and JB Chem advanced 0.77%, according to the chart.
• Cipla and Torrent Pharma also traded higher. Piramal Pharma fell 2.28%, while Ajanta Pharma declined 2.24% and Divi’s Laboratories slipped 0.75%.

• Benchmarks came off the day’s high after rising as much as 1% intraday.
• Nifty 50 traded 171.45 points, or 0.71%, higher at 24,193.10, after rising as much as 1% to 24,261.60. The Sensex gained 586.82 points, or 0.76%, to 77,578.04, after rising as much as 1.05% earlier.

• Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover will recall 2,50,857 SUVs in the US due to an air bag defect that could increase injury risk in a crash, Reuters reported, citing the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
• The recall covers certain Land Rover Defender, Discovery and Range Rover SUVs. The regulator said dealers will apply a protective lubricant gel to the connector terminals free of charge.

• JPMorgan’s Sajjid Chinoy told NDTV Profit that forward hedging picked up in April and May, and that RBI’s moves have changed market expectations and currency hedging behaviour.
• Chinoy said a higher rate differential with the US could support strong inflows, while lower crude prices will ease concerns around the current account deficit. He said stronger inflows could help insulate India from external factors.
• He listed the US-Iran war, US interest rates and El Niño as key risks. Chinoy said demand visibility remains inadequate and that demand growth over the next six months will be important for private capex, with consumption and exports needing to drive the pickup.

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has directed hotels, restaurants and similar establishments to provide safe drinking water free of cost to customers, PTI reported.

The order also bars food establishments from forcing customers to buy bottled water. It bans serving food in newspapers and mandates food-grade packaging, regular medical checks for staff, FoSTaC training and restrictions on reuse of cooking oil.

The order applies to hotels, restaurants, eateries, dhabas, canteens, cafeterias, quick-service restaurants, banquet halls, catering units, sweet shops, bakeries, food courts, juice bars, kitchens, chain restaurants and online food aggregators.

• Mold-Tek Packaging’s Laxman J Rao told NDTV Profit that the company is able to pass on price increases to customers and that growth numbers are in line with guidance.
• He said the company is seeing double-digit growth in food and FMCG and is receiving commercial orders from more clients. Mold-Tek is also entering the eye drops segment in pharma and expects capex of about Rs 90 crore this year.

• Tata Motors CV’s Girish Wagh told NDTV Profit that the company has set market share targets and is aiming for 40% share in the domestic commercial vehicle market by 2028.
• Wagh said the company expects single-digit growth in FY27 and that market share gains are not coming at the cost of pricing discipline. He said Tata Motors’ EV market share is higher than diesel, while the electric share in MHCV will be back-ended in FY28.

Bandhan Bank futures fell more than 5% while open interest increased 20.19%, indicating aggressive fresh short positions.

KEI Industries futures declined 2.21% while open interest increased 20.52%.

Oil India futures fell 0.95% while open interest increased 31.30%, indicating new bearish bets.

• A passport is not proof of Indian citizenship and this legal position is not new, government sources told IANS.
• The sources said the Passport Act, 1967, has long allowed the government to issue passports to non-citizens in public interest. They also cited Bombay High Court judgments from 2013, which said possession of a passport alone does not constitute proof of Indian citizenship.

• India is likely to pitch for semiconductor investments under the proposed $250 million Pax Silica fund, according to sources.
• MeitY Secretary S Krishnan and MEA officials are in Washington for India’s first Pax Silica Summit on June 25–26. Krishnan has already met US Under Secretary of State Jacob Helberg ahead of the summit.

• The Indian government may hold up to a 2% stake in AI startup Sarvam, The Economic Times reported.
• The stake may value Sarvam at about $1.5 billion, according to the report.

• US President Donald Trump said oil prices should be much lower and named Chevron, BP and Exxon Mobil when asked about a Department of Justice oil probe.
• Trump said he spoke with oil companies and that they were not reducing gasoline prices enough. He also said talks with Iran were progressing and that fees on the Strait of Hormuz were unacceptable.

• Asian markets rose in early trade as signs of easing energy supply risks supported sentiment.

Crude prices continued to retreat as concerns over supply disruptions eased. Brent crude traded near $73 a barrel after falling 4.3% in the previous session, while US West Texas Intermediate crude slipped below $70 a barrel.

Market participants pointed to higher crude availability from Middle Eastern and African producers, which increased supply in the physical market and eased shortage concerns.
