Rajinikanth's highly anticipated film Jailer 2 has run into trouble even before its release, after a video from the film began circulating online. The clip, reportedly taken from the sets, quickly spread across social media, catching both fans and the film's team off guard. The unexpected leak has once again brought the issue of piracy into focus within the Tamil film industry.
Makers Respond With Strict Warning
Reacting to the situation, production house Sun Pictures released an official statement, making it clear that action is being taken. As quoted by Deccan Herald, the statement read, "We would like to bring to your attention that a Video clip from the sets of ‘Jailer 2' is currently being circulated on social media platforms. Our anti-piracy team is actively monitoring the situation and will be taking necessary action to remove such content, including initiating measures against accounts involved in sharing or promoting these clips."
The makers also appealed directly to fans, media outlets and fan clubs to avoid engaging with the leaked material. “We kindly request members of the media and fans club to refrain from using, sharing, or reposting this video, in order to avoid any potential suspension or restrictions on their accounts. Please note that the production will not be held responsible for any such actions taken or to retrieve the accounts."
Second Leak Within Weeks
This incident comes shortly after Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay, faced a similar situation. That case led to legal action, with multiple arrests reported, including a freelance assistant editor. The back-to-back leaks have raised serious concerns about content security during film production and post-production stages.
About The Film
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 is a sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer, which was a massive box office success, earning around Rs 650 crore worldwide. The sequel is expected to feature a wide ensemble cast, including Shivarajkumar, Mohanlal, Vijay Sethupathi, Vidya Balan and Mithun Chakraborty.
It has already generated strong excitement among fans, with filming having started in Chennai earlier this year and the project now said to be in its final stages. The makers are now focused on containing the leak and protecting the film ahead of its planned 2026 release.
