Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Meerut on Feb. 22, where he will inaugurate and dedicate to the nation infrastructure projects worth around Rs 12,930 crore.
According to a press release issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), PM Modi will flag off both the Meerut Metro and the Namo Bharat train from the Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat station around 12:30 p.m. He will then undertake a metro ride to Meerut South station before addressing a public gathering later in the day.
A key highlight of the visit will be the dedication of the entire 82-km Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat corridor to the nation. PM Modi will inaugurate the remaining stretches of India's first Regional Rapid Transit System, including the 5-km Sarai Kale Khan–New Ashok Nagar section in Delhi and the 21-km Meerut South–Modipuram section in Uttar Pradesh.
Designed for a top speed of 180 kmph, the Namo Bharat RRTS is aimed at cutting travel time between Delhi and key urban centres such as Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar and Meerut.
Sarai Kale Khan, the initial station of the corridor, will be among the four Namo Bharat stations to be commissioned during the inauguration. The station has been developed as a major multi-modal hub, linking Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station, the Delhi Metro's Pink Line, the Veer Haqeeqat Rai ISBT and the Ring Road.

The other three stations being opened, namely, Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul and Modipuram, are located in Meerut.
PM Modi will inaugurate the Meerut Metro services between Meerut South and Modipuram. In a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, the metro will operate on the same infrastructure as the Namo Bharat trains.
With a maximum operational speed of about 120 kmph, the Meerut Metro is billed as the country's fastest metro system and is expected to cover the full stretch in around 30 minutes, including scheduled stops.
“This seamless integration of Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro on the same infrastructure will ensure high-speed intercity travel and swift intra-city movement, setting a benchmark for integrated urban and regional transit in India. It will decongest road traffic and consequently lead to significant reduction in vehicular carbon dioxide emissions,” read the PIB release.
