The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning for parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Palghar.
According to the bulletin issued by the weather body on March 18, rainfall and thunderstorm activity will prevail in different parts of the state for the next two days. In Mumbai, Thane and Palghar, light rain and thundershowers are expected on March 18 and March 19.
According to the IMD, from March 20 onwards, weather conditions are expected to remain dry in these districts. Thane may see slightly higher intensity on March 19, with light to moderate rain and thundershowers expected, while Mumbai and Palghar are likely to continue with light rain.
Pune is expected to see more intense weather conditions compared to the coastal districts. On March 18, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds of 50-60 kmph and hail are likely at isolated places.
On March 19, thunderstorms will continue with lightning, along with light to moderate rainfall and winds of 40-50 kmph. Dry weather is expected from March 20 onwards. Across all four districts, rainfall and thunderstorm activity is expected mainly on March 18 and 19, with "very likely" probability. However, from March 20 to March 22, no rainfall activity will be there.
Forecast For Other Parts Of Maharashtra
Apart from Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Pune, several other districts in Maharashtra are also likely to see thunderstorm activity mainly on March 18 and 19, with a "very likely" probability.
In coastal districts, thunderstorms with lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds are expected. Some places may also experience stronger winds up to 50-60 kmph and hail. In north Maharashtra districts, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in some areas, especially on March 19.
Central Maharashtra districts are likely to witness thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds (up to 50-60 kmph) and hail at isolated places during this period. In Marathwada districts, thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds and hail are expected on March 18 and 19, followed by light rain in some areas on March 20 before conditions turn dry.
Vidarbha is also likely to receive thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds, with some places seeing hail. Weather activity reduces after March 20.
IMD Issues Advisory
The IMD has urged the public to avoid open areas during thunderstorms, stay away from tall structures and water bodies, and unplug electrical appliances during lightning activity.
Farmers have been advised to harvest matured crops early, avoid irrigation and spraying, and keep harvested produce and livestock in safe places.
