The newly formed TVK-led Tamil Nadu government under Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is set to face a crucial floor test in the 234-member Assembly on Wednesday.

The confidence motion marks the government's first major challenge as it moves to formally establish its majority in the House.

Ahead of the high-stakes vote, Chief Minister Vijay has intensified outreach efforts with alliance partners to strengthen coalition support.

The CM is scheduled to visit Sathyamurthy Bhavan, the headquarters of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC).

High-level discussions are expected with TNCC chief K Selvaperunthagai, AICC in-charge Girish Chodankar, and senior Congress legislators to ensure a unified front, reported India Today.

The confidence vote comes at a time when the main opposition AIADMK is facing internal divisions. The AIADMK has warned members against cross-voting, threatening legal action and disqualification ahead of the crucial Assembly floor test.

Sources indicate that Vijay's diplomatic itinerary also includes a private meeting with Thol Thirumavalavan, chief of the VCK, and key leadership from the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). This follows a series of strategic meetings held over the previous days with heavyweight regional figures, including DMK President MK Stalin, MDMK founder Vaiko, and PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss.

Mathematics of Assembly Seats

The legislative arithmetic remains tight. Following Vijay's resignation from the Tiruchirappalli East seat, the TVK currently holds 107 seats. To secure the government's stability, the party has banked on the support of 13 additional MLAs from the Congress, VCK, Left parties, and the IUML.

While party chief Edappadi K Palaniswami has ordered members to oppose the motion, a growing rebellion within the party has weakened its united position. Around 30 AIADMK MLAs, led by senior leaders SP Velumani and C Ve Shanmugam, have reportedly questioned the party leadership after its poor performance in the Assembly elections.
