The Telangana government is reportedly planning to cut salaries of state government employees by 10% to 15% if parents are neglected. 

According to a report by The Hindu Businessline, the Congress government in the state has announced that it will introduce a new law which will allow slashing salaries of government employees who are not looking after their parents.

The proposed legislation is expected to be tabled during the upcoming budget session of the State Assembly.

 Addressing newly recruited Group-I and Group-II officers on Thursday, he said the government wanted to underline the importance of family responsibilities among public servants. He conveyed that employees who neglect their parents would face financial consequences once the law comes into force.

The chief minister was speaking at the Marri Channa Reddy Human Resources Development Institute (MCHRD), where a new batch of officers had assembled for training, as per the report.

During his address, Revanth Reddy also announced that the institute would soon enter into a formal agreement with Harvard University. 

He said that as part of this collaboration, experts in public administration from Harvard would visit the institute and provide training to Telangana government officials.

Commenting on recruitment processes, the chief minister criticised the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government, alleging that it failed to conduct proper recruitment for Group-I posts.

He said that although around six lakh candidates had applied, only 582 candidates were selected for Group-I positions, while 1,775 candidates were chosen for Group-II posts.

According to a report by The Economic Times, Revanth Reddy had in October 2025, asked Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao to form a committee of officials to draft the legislation.

The Telangana Legislature's Budget Session for the year 2026 is scheduled to begin on March 16. 

The session will open with the customary address by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, followed by a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee to finalise the agenda and duration of the session.
