The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has issued an official clarification after a video circulating on social media falsely claimed that Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor admitted serious safety concerns about the Tejas aircraft and warned about urgent upgrades to prevent loss of life.
The PIB Fact Check Unit in a post on X, stated that the video was being circulated by alleged Pakistani propaganda handles and was digitally manipulated to mislead viewers.
“Deepfake Video Alert. Pakistani propaganda handles are circulating a digitally manipulated video falsely showing Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor claiming that the Indian Air Force raised serious concerns about the Tejas aircraft and warned of urgent upgrades to prevent further loss of life,” the PIB Fact Check Unit said in its post.
PIB clarified that the video was “#FAKE” and warned that it had been altered using digital manipulation techniques. The Bureau also stated that Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor had made no such remarks regarding the Tejas aircraft.
In the manipulated clip, the Air Marshal is heard saying that the “recent Tejas crash shows that there are challenges beyond just pilot training” and that while pilots are capable, operating jets under extreme conditions tests the aircraft itself.
The video further claims that such incidents highlight the need to improve training and technology to ensure pilot safety and maintain Air Force standards.
According to PIB, this audio has been falsely inserted and does not reflect any statement made by the officer.
What Did Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor Actually Say?
In the authentic video, Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor is heard speaking about the message conveyed during Operation Sindoor.
“The message from Op Sindoor was clear. It was clear even before we took the first sortie up. It was that terrorism will not be tolerated and that every act of terror conducted on our soil will be responded to, and there will be a price to pay for the perpetrators,” he said in the original recording.
