9 Killed After Car Falls Into Water-filled Well In Maharashtra's Nashik

Nine people were killed after a car plunged into a water-filled well late last night in Nashik, Maharashtra, according to a report by NDTV.

All nine victims belonged to the Dargude family from Indore, marking a major loss for the entire family.

The incident occurred after a Maruti XL6 car reportedly lost control and plunged into a water-filled well located along the roadside, while the family was returning home after attending a private gathering.

Six children, including a seven-year-old girl was killed in the tragedy. Sunil Dargude, his wife, and their daughter were also among those who lost their lives in the accident.

Dindori Police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident. As per preliminary information cited in the report, the accident occurred after the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Rescue operations continued till late at night, with teams including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed at the spot. However, a large crowd of onlookers created obstacles during the rescue efforts, the report said.

The incident occurred months after six persons were killed after a car fell into a 600-foot deep gorge in Saptashring Garh Ghat in Kalwan taluka of Nashik in December, PTI reported, citing a police official.

"They died on the spot. The Toyota Innova vehicle, which had seven passengers, suffered heavy damage. The deceased have been identified as Kirti Patel (50), Raseela Patel (50), Vitthal Patel (65), Lata Patel (60), Vachan Patel (60) and Maniben Patel (70). Superintendent of police Balasaheb Patil is supervising rescue operations," the official was quoted as saying.

Following the December tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident and wrote in a post on X, "Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to a mishap in Nashik, Maharashtra. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover soon."
