The Maharashtra government has warned that more than 26 lakh women enrolled in the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana will be permanently removed from the scheme if they do not complete mandatory e-KYC verification by April 30 — the final deadline set by the state for the process, NDTV reported.
The scheme pays eligible women Rs 1,500 per month directly into their bank accounts. Women who miss the deadline will stop receiving the money. The government launched the verification drive after finding large-scale irregularities in the beneficiary list.
Authorities identified 26 lakh ineligible beneficiaries, including 14,000 men who had been receiving Rs1,500 per month for several months, and 7.97 lakh women enrolled as third members from the same family — though the scheme allows a maximum of two women per household.
The crackdown has already had major consequences. Around 68 lakh accounts were closed after beneficiaries failed to complete e-KYC before the March 31 deadline, bringing the number of active beneficiaries down from roughly 2.43 crore to 1.75 crore.

April 30 is not the first deadline. The e-KYC process has been extended several times since November 2025. The government has now said there will be no further extensions.
Women and Child Welfare Minister of the state, Aditi Tatkare announced the current extension on the directions of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Sunetra Pawar. The extension also gives beneficiaries who made errors in their application forms a final chance to correct them.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government allocated Rs 26,000 crore for the scheme in 2026-27, down from Rs 36,000 crore the previous year, reflecting the drop in active beneficiaries.
Women can complete e-KYC at ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in using their Aadhaar number and linked mobile. Those with mismatched Aadhaar or bank details must correct them before the deadline or their payments will be cut permanently.
