Strong earthquake tremors were felt in Kolkata after an earthquake struck Bangladesh on Friday afternoon.
The earthqukae was recorded at a depth of 10 km below Earth's surface. The epicentre of the quake was at a place named Nayabazar in Bangladesh, some 100 km from Kolkata.
The quake was felt at around 1.22 pm, reported PTI quoting India Meteorological Department (IMD) official.
Several social media users took to X to share that they felt tremors.

An ‘X' user said that the tremors were 20 seconds long, the user wrote, “Massive long earthquake tremors felt here in kolkata. It was 20 seconds long. #Earthquake #Kolkata”
“It's Earthquake in #Kolkata. I felt 3 tremors. How many did you feel?,” wrote another.

A local journalist, Tamal Saha wrote, “Strong tremors jolt #Kolkata #Earthquake More details awaited.”
Tremors Reported in Sikkim and Other Regions
Meanwhile, tremors were also reported from parts of Sikkim, including West Sikkim, reported North East Today.

According to data from the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), multiple tremors were recorded late Thursday night and into early Friday.
The most recent occurred at around 4:10 a.m. on Friday, when a shallow earthquake of magnitude 3.7 struck at a depth of 5 km.
Reports said that Sikkim experienced four separate earthquakes on Thursday alone, resulting in damage to infrastructure at Gangyap School and Gerethang School. In addition, a 3.4-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh on February 15 at around 8:50 p.m.
A mild earthquake was felt in the capital Dhaka and several other parts of Bangladesh around 12:04 p.m. on February 26.

The report, citing the United States Geological Survey (USGS), stated that the tremor measured 4.8 on the Richter scale, with its epicentre located in Gyalshing in West Sikkim, India, about 455 kilometres northwest of Bangladesh's seismic monitoring centre in Agargaon.
The report further noted that a day earlier, on February 25, a 5.1-magnitude earthquake originating in Myanmar was also felt in Dhaka and several other parts of Bangladesh.
