Delhi Budget 2026: New EV Policy Gets Rs 200 Crore, Extra Pollution Testing Centres Planned

The Delhi government will introduce a new policy to promote electric mobility with an allocation of Rs 200 crore. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta introduced the budget for financial year 2026-27 on Tuesday. A budget allocation of Rs 8,374 crore has been proposed for the Transport Department.

To make Delhi emission‑free, the electric bus fleet will be expanded. Under the PM E‑DRIVE scheme, the government plans to introduce 6,130 additional e‑buses in a phased manner. The government said it is committed to deploying 7,500 buses in Delhi by March 2027, of which 5,800 will be electric. The target is to operate 12,000 EV buses on Delhi roads by 2029.

An allocation of Rs 2,885 crore has been proposed in the Delhi budget for DMRC Phase IV and Phase V projects.

The government has approved two more NaMo Bharat Corridors—Delhi‑SNB and Delhi‑Panipat‑Sonipat. These corridors will improve connectivity in the NCR, reduce pollution, and cut travel time by up to 60% due to faster transport facilities. A budget of Rs 568 crore has been proposed for RRTS.

Five additional Automated Testing Station (ATS) will be set up at various DTC depots including Bawana, Ghazipur, Savda Ghevra, GT Karnal Road and Dwarka Kalan, at a cost of Rs 50 crore. A budget of Rs 320 crore has been proposed for electrification of bus depots, charging infrastructure and other capital infrastructure in FY27. 

To ease traffic congestion in Delhi, Rs 10 crore has been allocated for feasibility studies for flyovers, elevated roads and a new parallel Ring Road.
