Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday achieved a rare milestone in the political history of India by becoming the second longest-serving PM of the country. Modi has surpassed Indira Gandhi's 4,077-day tenure from 1966 to 1977. He has also become the longest-serving non-Congress PM of India.

PM Modi completed 4,078 consecutive days in office on July 25.

He took oath as the 14th Prime Minister of India on 26 May 2014 and continued to hold the top post after re-elections in the Lok Sabha polls in 2019 and 2024.

The official X handle of the BJP marked the occasion by sharing key highlights from PM Modi's tenure. Among his many achievements, PM Modi is also the only Prime Minister other than Jawaharlal Nehru to win three consecutive national elections. He is also the first and only PM born after independence in 1950. He also holds the title for the longest-serving PM from a non-Hindi-speaking state and the longest-serving elected head of government in India's history.

Several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders also congratulated PM Modi on his rare achievement.

"PM Narendra Modi surpasses former PM Indira Gandhi to become India's second-longest serving Prime Minister in an unbroken tenure: a symbol of stability, vision and people's trust," Union Minister Prahlad Joshi said in a post on X.
