Citing the complaints, he said, “use of petrol bikes instead of electric ones, women being harassed by riders. Despite continuous warning, these companies did not obey rules.”

Furthermore, Sarnaik pointed out that the state transport department had issued temporary licences to the companies.

“We directed them to submit necessary documents; however they (ride hailing companies) did not submit any of them. Prompting us to take a decision to revoke their temporary licenses across Maharashtra,” he added.

Sarnaik further noted that the issue was raised in the Legislative Council by Sunil Shinde, after which the government decided on the revocation. He clarified that if the companies submit the required documents and assure strict compliance with the rules, the state may consider lifting the ban.
