The police tracked down and arrested the suspect within six hours of the crime after watching CCTV camera footage in nearby areas and local information.

“The accused had targeted the elderly woman after seeing the gold ornaments she was wearing and entered the house under the pretext of asking for water when the couple was alone. During questioning, the accused reportedly told the police that he was facing serious financial debt and had planned the robbery to repay his loans. When the woman resisted, he strangled her,” HT reported, quoting the Nelamangala Town Police Inspector Bharat Gowda.

Police also confirmed that the stolen jewellery has been recovered. Further investigation is underway to find out whether the accused was involved in any similar offences.
