Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi paid tributes to former Chairman of Raymond Group Vijaypat Singhania. Industrialist Vijaypat Singhania died in Mumbai at age 87 on Saturday.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Fadnavis praised Singhania's contributions to the textile industry, his philanthropy, and adventurous spirit, saying his legacy will continue to inspire generations.
Milind Deora expressed his condolences on the passing of Vijaypat Singhania, former chairman of Raymond Group, saying he's saddened to hear about his demise. Deora shared that Singhania was a close friend of his late father and he grew up admiring his adventurous stories, including his microlight flight across the world and hot air balloon records.
Priyanka Chaturvedi expressed her condolences on the passing of Vijaypat Singhania, describing him as an industrialist, aviator, and philanthropist who inspired many. She offered her heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and admirers, saying "Om Shanti".
Vijaypat Singhania, a recipient of the Padma Bhushan, was also a keen aviator and held a world record for the highest altitude gained in a hot air balloon. He led Raymond as chairman for two decades till 2000. Singhania expanded Raymond into synthetic fabrics, denim, steel, industrial files, and cement, thus forging a diversified industrial conglomerate.
In March 2007, Dr Singhania was appointed as Chairman of the Governing Council of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, a role he held until 2012. Singhania passed the baton of the Raymond Group to son Gautam Singhania in 2000 but continued to be active in public life.
