Sahay's appointment follows the exit of Rakshit Hargave, the former chief executive of Birla Opus Paints, who resigned in November 2025 to pursue opportunities outside the company.

Hargave joined Grasim in 2021 and led the paints business from the planning phase to launch. During his tenure, the company set up six integrated manufacturing plants and established nationwide distribution and supply-chain operations.

Grasim Managing Director Himanshu Kapania oversaw the paints business on an interim basis following Hargave's departure.
