Green truck manufacturer Blue Energy Motors on Monday announced the operationalisation of Bhiwandi's first battery-swap station for electric heavy-duty trucks in partnership with state-owned oil marketing firm HPCL.
Beyond electric trucking, the facility integrates battery-swapping infrastructure with an EV charging station accessible to the public, to cater to electric two-wheelers, four-wheelers and commercial vehicles, extending its relevance beyond freight and creating a multi-segment EV energy hub within HPCL's established retail network, the company said.
Located in one of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region's key logistics and warehousing hubs, the facility strengthens the infrastructure supporting the adoption of electric heavy-duty trucks and extends the Mumbai-Pune Electric Freight Corridor, launched by Blue Energy Motors in October last year, it said.
The station enables battery swapping for Blue Motors' electric heavy-duty trucks in less than five minutes, minimizing charging downtime and improving fleet utilisation. By addressing a critical operational requirement in electric freight, the facility brings convenience and efficiency to commercial vehicle operations. The company currently has over 1,400 green heavy-duty trucks operating across key freight routes in India.
"Our focus is on making electric freight a practical and scalable reality in India. Our partnership with HPCL brings together our strengths to build the energy infrastructure needed to support this transition. Bhiwandi, with its strong freight and logistics activity, is an important market for us," said Anand Mimani, CEO for EV & New Energy Business at Blue Energy Motors.
By combining rapid battery swapping for heavy-duty trucks with public charging facilities, the initiative addresses the distinct energy requirements of commercial freight as well as other electric vehicle users, it said.
