Adani-Operated Mumbai Airport's Terminal 1 To Undergo Redevelopment, Set To Add 42% In Capacity

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport's Terminal 1 is set to be able to manage 20 million passengers per year after its redevelopment. According to its operator, Adani Airport Holdings Ltd., this reflects a 42% jump in its operational capacity.

The company said that it will be demolishing and redeveloping Terminal 1 and CSMIA T2, along with Navi Mumbai International Airport, scheduled to be operational in 2025, will manage the capacity gap created by the demolition of T1.

During the construction, Terminal 2 will shoulder the additional traffic. Advanced technologies such as DigiYatra, self-baggage drop, and e-Gates will ensure smooth passenger movement despite the increased footfall. Additional service staff will be deployed at key locations to assist passengers during peak travel periods. Airlines and other stakeholders will be informed well in advance to ensure uninterrupted flight schedules. 

The initial phase involves the demolition of the existing structure, starting in November 2025, followed by the construction of the new terminal. The company said Mumbai Airport will ensure that passenger convenience and safety remain a priority throughout the process. The airports will be accommodating passengers and flight schedules to meet the demands of Mumbai City and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
