The recommendations of the 8th Central Pay Commission are projected to be ready by mid-2027, with the body now seeking applications from qualified individuals to assist in the process. Successful applicants will be appointed as consultants, with monthly earnings reaching up to Rs 1.80 lakh.

As per the notification issued on April 10, 2026, applications are to be submitted exclusively through an online process, with recruitment continuing until all positions are filled. The roles are temporary in nature and offered on a contractual basis, aimed at engaging professionals capable of delivering specialised expertise for time-bound assignments.

Role

Consultants engaged for the assignment will be tasked with a mix of analytical and coordination duties. They will examine compensation structures, including salaries, allowances and pensions, for employee groups covered under the Commission's terms of reference, while also reviewing existing emolument frameworks. 

The role requires studying data from surveys and reports to identify emerging trends, undertaking legal research connected to the Commission's scope, and working closely with ministries and departments to collect and organise relevant information.

Eligibility And Age Limit

Senior consultants are required to have over 10 years of relevant experience, with an upper age limit of 45 years. For the consultant role, candidates must possess at least six years of experience and be no older than 40 years. 

Young professionals are expected to have a minimum of four years' experience, with the age cap set at 32 years.

Applicants holding a Master's degree or MBA in Finance, Human Resources, Industrial Relations or related disciplines are eligible to apply. 

Alternatively, candidates with an LLB, enrolled with a Bar Council or Bar Association, and possessing relevant experience in legal research or in handling service-related matters before tribunals or courts will also be considered.

The official document highlights that familiarity with spreadsheets, including Excel, and presentation skills are mandatory for all roles. Candidates with experience in compensation structures, pay systems, or establishment-related work will be preferred.

Vacancies

The Commission has earmarked five positions for Senior Consultants, another five for Consultants, and 10 openings for Young Professionals.

Remuneration

The monthly pay structure varies by category and mode of engagement. Senior Consultants can earn Rs 1.80 lakh on a full-time basis, Rs 90,000 for 12 days of work a month, or Rs 45,000 for six days per month. 

Consultants will receive Rs 1.20 lakh, Rs 60,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively, while Young Professionals will be paid Rs 90,000, Rs 45,000 and Rs 22,500 under the same arrangements.

No extra perks or allowances, including accommodation, transport, DA, foreign travel, personal staff or medical claims, will be extended to those appointed.
