Two out of three main Wall Street indices opened in the green on Monday. The S&P 500 was down 0.04% at 6,087.80 points at the opening bell, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose 0.01% to 19,860.78 points.
The 30-stock Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.13% to open at 44,701.05.
Stocks like Nvidia Corp. were down 2.40%, Procter & Gamble Co. fell 1.23%, and Walmart Inc. dipped 0.78%. Among the companies that rose in early trade were McDonald's Corp., up 0.08%, and Boeing Co., which jumped 2.36%.
Among the 11 S&P 500 sectoral indices, four were trading higher, whereas seven lagged against the previous day's close. The gains were led by the information technology, financials, and communication services sectors, whereas energy, healthcare, and real estate were among the drags.
As the US market opened, spot gold was higher 1.53% at $2,673.60, and crude oil prices were higher, with Brent trading 1.48% higher at $72.17 per barrel.
The Bloomberg Dollar Index changed slightly, with the British pound rising 0.2% to $1.2771 while the Japanese yen fell 0.5% to 150.76 per dollar.
Bitcoin, the largest traded cryptocurrency, dipped 1.1% to $99,025.48.
