The government on Friday appointed four new secretaries to key departments under the Ministry of Finance as a part of bureaucratic overhaul as India engages in global trade negotiations, fiscal planning, and economic partnerships, according to an official notification.
Arvind Srivastava, a 1994-batch IAS officer of the Karnataka cadre, has been appointed Revenue Secretary. Srivastava was serving as Additional Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office and has previously worked in the Department of Economic Affairs. He has experience in economic affairs and public policy.
So far, Finance Secretary Ajay Seth was holding additional charge of the Department of Revenue and the Department of Economic Affairs. Srivastava was serving as Additional Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office. He has earlier worked in the DEA.
Seth was elevated to Finance Secretary while he was holding the charge of the DEA after Tuhin Kanta Pandey became the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India.
Anuradha Thakur, also a 1994-batch IAS officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre, has been appointed Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs. She replaces Manoj Govil, a 1991-batch officer, who has been named Secretary (Coordination) in the Cabinet Secretariat. Thakur previously served as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. She holds a postgraduate degree in Psychology from Delhi University. Thakur will take charge as DEA Secretary after Ajay Seth’s retirement on June 30 and to serve as OSD in the department until then.
Vumlunmang Vualnam, a 1992-batch IAS officer of the Manipur cadre, has been appointed Expenditure Secretary. He was serving as Secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation. He earlier held the post of Additional Secretary in the DEA. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accountancy and a Master’s in Public Policy from OP Jindal Global University.
K Moses Chalai, a 1990-batch IAS officer from the Manipur cadre, has been appointed Secretary of the Department of Public Enterprises. He was previously Secretary of the North Eastern Council and was heading the Inter-State Council Secretariat.
The appointments are part of the government’s effort to strengthen leadership in financial departments to support fiscal management and international economic engagement.
