In Samvat 2077, the Sensex and Nifty gave phenomenal returns to investors by surging 40 per cent to record highs on the back of strong global liquidity, containment of COVID-19 cases, significant pickup in vaccination and sharp recovery in corporate earnings.
Meanwhile, the broader markets outperformed benchmark indices as Midcap and Smallcap indices jumped more than 70 per cent.
"With the economic cycle picking up, we expect the corporate earnings growth to revive as well. Markets have always moved in tandem with earnings growth. History of Muhurat Trading Session
BSE and NSE have been holding the special Muhurat trading sessions since 1957 and 1992 respectively. Traditionally, stock brokers opened new settlement accounts for their clients on the day of Diwali.
