Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized on Sunday that Maha Kumbh 2025, along with other initiatives, will boost Uttar Pradesh's and India's economies. The state's infrastructural upgrades and tourism appeal have positioned it as a hub for both.
“The grandiose of Maha Kumbh cannot be captured through words, it is a record breaking event by any reasonable estimate,” Yogi said in an exclusive interview with NDTV’s Editor-in-Chief, Sanjay Pugalia.
He stated that the UP government has completely transformed the state’s infrastructure to bring it in line with the scale of Maha Kumbh. “We have transformed so many single-lane roads into double-lane roads and a lot of double-lane ones into four-lane roads,” Yogi said.
He further highlighted that the government created 14 flyovers and underpasses to improve connectivity and made provisions for over 5000 acres of parking space. He stated that the government knew what catches the eyes of media, opposition members, and made sure that there is no arrangement at the event that can be pointed out as inadequate.
He further stated that this year’s Maha Kumbh has made the free flow of pilgrims to the event a lot more conducive as compared to the 2013 one.
“In 2013, a total of 12 crore pilgrims graced the Maha Kumbh. In 2025, this number has been breached within 11 days,” Yogi said. He added that this is a testament to the arrangements undertaken by the government and said that a minimum of 1 crore people are coming to the Maha Kumbh everyday.
Everyone is appreciating the security arrangements made. People are appreciating the UP police, Yogi pointed out. “Even foreigners have come for the Maha Kumbh and are appreciating it,” Yogi said.
He stated that there is not a single house in Prayagraj that has not made arrangements for the pilgrims, highlighting that the entire state and its people are an integral part of the event’s success.
The Maha Kumbh Mela is a major pilgrimage which draws millions of people from around the world to Prayagraj. While the Kumbh mela happens every 12 years, the Maha Kumbh festival occurs every 144 years and is India's largest religious gathering.
