In what comes as another successful step in realising the dream of having a high-speed train for the Indian railways, the spanish-made ‘Talgo’ completed its final trial run from Delhi to Mumbai in less than 12-hours.
The train began its journey from New Delhi at 2:45 p.m. Indian Time on September 10 and arrived at Mumbai Central this morning at 2:27 a.m., two minutes ahead of its scheduled arrival. The train took a total of 11 hours and 42 minutes to complete the journey.
Currently, the fastest train on the Mumbai-Delhi-Mumbai route is the superfast Rajdhani Express which takes a total of 16 hours to complete the 1,384 kilometer journey.
Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhu, took to twitter to share the news of the successful trail. “A major achievement for our team. We are working on increasing speed, reducing travel time using innovative means.” #Talgo
The Ministry of Railways had conducted earlier trials of Talgo on the Northern section namely the Bareily-Moradabad stretch as well as the Palwal-Mathura stretch in August this year.
