Billionaire Elon Musk confirmed in an X post on Wednesday that he is traveling to Beijing aboard Air Force One with President Donald Trump and other top US business leaders for a summit with President Xi Jinping.
In a post on X, Musk confirmed his presence on the presidential trip, writing, “On my way to Beijing in Air Force One.”
A high-powered team of more than a dozen top US corporate executives, headlined by Tesla's Elon Musk and Nvidia's Jensen Huang, is among the American delegation traveling to China. This high-profile visit underscores the ongoing efforts by US tech and industrial leaders to maintain strategic footholds in the world's second-largest economy.
As the visit marks the first trip by a sitting US president to China in nearly a decade, Trump will seek economic breakthroughs and improved trade ties amid global tensions and domestic political pressure. The Beijing visit carries significant weight for Nvidia as the semiconductor giant continues to navigate hurdles in securing permission to sell its advanced H200 artificial intelligence chips within the Chinese market.
Ahead of the Beijing summit, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent met Chinese officials in South Korea to discuss keeping a fragile trade deal from last year stable between the two countries.
Reports suggest that the group of traveling executives changed from what the White House first planned. Earlier lists included people like Elon Musk and Tim Cook, but several other CEOs were finally added.
The diplomatic efforts come as President Trump took to Truth Social to underscore the importance of the accompanying business delegation, highlighting their role in the ongoing economic engagement between the world's two largest economies.
“I will be asking President Xi, a Leader of extraordinary distinction, to ‘open up' China so that these brilliant people can work their magic,” Trump wrote.
