The US President Donald Trump on Wednesday said Iran has agreed not to develop a nuclear weapon, suggesting that negotiations between Washington and Tehran are making significant progress after months of diplomatic engagement, reported Reuters.
Speaking during a podcast interview, Trump claimed that Iranian leaders have accepted a key U.S. demand and indicated that the country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, is personally involved in the discussions.
According to Trump, the Ayatollah is aware of the talks and has played a role in approving the negotiating process.
"They've already agreed they're not going to have a nuclear weapon," Trump said, while expressing optimism about the direction of the talks.

He added that developments are unfolding rapidly and hinted that an important announcement could be made in the near future.
Trump also suggested that a meeting with the Ayatollah could take place at some stage.
The remarks come as the United States continues efforts to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions through diplomacy.
Trump has repeatedly stated that preventing Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon remains a top priority for his administration.
While the US president's comments point to growing momentum in the negotiations, no formal agreement has been announced by either side.
Discussions between Washington and Tehran are understood to be ongoing, with several issues yet to be resolved before a final deal can be reached.
