Loud explosions were heard in Kyiv on Thursday evening as Ukrainian authorities reported a ballistic missile threat over the capital and surrounding region, with residents urged to remain in shelters until the air-raid alert is lifted.

Ukrainian monitoring channels and Kyiv Post reporters said blasts were heard across the Ukrainian capital at approximately 7:29 pm local time on Friday.

Reports indicated that ballistic missiles were travelling toward Kyiv and the surrounding region, while Shahed drones were also detected in Ukrainian airspace.

Some monitoring channels suggested that the weapons involved could be quasi-ballistic or cruise missiles travelling at supersonic speeds, with Zircon or Onyx-M missiles among the possibilities.

However, those claims have not been independently verified.

The reports currently establish a ballistic missile threat but do not conclusively identify the type of missile used.

Confirmation would typically require statements from Ukraine's Air Force or defence authorities, analysis of recovered debris or other official evidence.

A separate Russian strike reportedly triggered a fire at an industrial or warehouse facility in Vyshhorod district. Initial reports said there were no casualties at the site.

Earlier drone attacks in the Fastiv district reportedly injured five people, including three children, according to preliminary reports.

Kyiv and the surrounding region remained under an air-raid warning as the reports emerged.

Ukrainian residents were advised to follow instructions from the authorities and stay in designated shelters while the threat remained active.

The latest reports come amid continued Russian missile and drone attacks across Ukraine.
