Google Trends revealed some interesting insights on what kept the search engine users busy in India this week. The Google search activities were dominated by a mix of sports-related updates to major geopolitical standoffs. In the first week of February 2026, the Winter Olympics and the release of documents, images and videos related to the Jeffrey Epstein files were the most-searched topics, as per Google Trends.

The Winter Olympics in Italy and the India-South Africa cricket series led the pack with over two million searches each. Close behind was the massive interest in the Epstein files, which trended for six days straight with 500K+ searches.

Meanwhile, the youth sports scene is buzzing with 1M+ searches for the India Under-19 team's clashes against Afghanistan and England, alongside a surprising surge in interest for the New Zealand vs USA cricket fixture.

Winter Olympics 2026

The 2026 Winter Olympics or the XXV Olympic Winter Games are scheduled to take place from Feb. 6 to 22 in Italy. It is being co-hosted by two cities - Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. The 2026 Winter Olympics was the most searched term in India this week, with over two million queries, reflecting a 1,000% surge in interest over the last two days.

The search interest in the 2026 Winter Olympics in India spiked dramatically on Feb. 4, driven by the start of preliminary competitions and a dedicated tribute from Google. Although the grand opening ceremony in Milan is scheduled for Feb. 6, the competition officially kicked off with curling two days earlier on Feb. 4.

This early start was marked by an interactive Google Doodle titled "The Spirit of the Slopes," which featured a mini-game that allowed users to unlock facts about the host cities.

Searches related to the New Zealand versus USA match surged by 1,000% to exceed one million in the last 22 hours as fans tracked this high-stakes ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 clash. In the T20 World Cup warm-up match at Navi Mumbai on Feb. 5, New Zealand defeated the USA by seven runs after setting a target of 209.

Epstein Files

As per Google Trends data, Epstein files-related searches surged by 1,000% to reach over 5,00,000 six days ago as new details from the massive release of documents continued to trend. More than three million pages of documents linked to Epstein files were released by the US Department of Justice recently, which included photos, videos, court records, FBI and DOJ documents, news clippings and emails.

The files included mentions of prominent figures like President Donald Trump, billionaire Elon Musk and former President Bill Clinton, among others.

India U19 Vs Afghanistan U19

The India Under 19 versus Afghanistan Under 19 match also witnessed a massive 1,000% surge with over one million searches two days ago as fans tracked the intense Under 19 World Cup clash. According to Google Trends, the search peaked on Feb. 5, a day after India U-19 defeated Afghanistan U-19 by seven wickets, chasing a record 311 with 53 balls to spare.

India Vs South Africa

The India-South Africa match saw a 1,000% spike in search volume with over two million queries on Feb. 4 as India secured a dominant 30-run victory. Defending champions India had played against the Proteas in their ICC Men's T20 World Cup warm-up match on Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
