Indian techie Soham Parekh's moonlighting scandal has put a spotlight on a larger trend in the tech industry. As remote work becomes common, more cases are emerging of employees who are secretly working multiple jobs.
After Parekh's infamous moonlighting scandal came to light through a post made by Playground AI founder Suhail Doshi, many Silicon Valley CEOs echoed similar allegations against the techie. It turns out that Parekh is just one of thousands of such employees quietly juggling multiple remote jobs.
Amid the controversy, Indian-origin tech influencer and former Google employee, Debarghya (Deedy) Das, has claimed that "Soham Parekh is just the tip of the iceberg."

The photos showed a post made by an anonymous techie who claimed to have made $8,00,000 a year by juggling five jobs simultaneously.
"Soham Parekh is just the tip of the iceberg, just like this Redditor pulling $800k a yr working 5 jobs. r/overemployed is a community of more than 5,00,000 redditors where people just maniacally discuss this. There are 1000s of Soham Parekhs we don't know about," Das said.
The viral Reddit post shared by Das showed an individual sharing his experience. The post claimed that since starting five jobs, the anonymous techie was making $3,000 a day. According to the post, it was "doable" because the individual is an expert in data and knows how to solve problems in different ways.
AdvertisementThe techie said he managed this by working as a "consultant" for clients, keeping distance from the organisations. According to the post, he has 15 years of experience and three years of "over-employment" experience.
This viral story is similar to the one that is doing the rounds about Parekh. After Doshi's post went viral, at least five US-based CEOs claimed that he worked for their companies simultaneously.
Founders from Lindy, Antimetal, Fleet AI, and Mosaic were among those who made these allegations.
In a separate post, Doshi later said that Parekh had reached out to him over the incident and sought advice on fixing this scandal. According to Doshi, Parekh now wants to come clean.
