If you like mimicking someone or something in your messages or replies — from a robot to an animal — you now have some help from artificial intelligence and Instagram. The Meta-owned platform has introduced a new AI-powered feature called AI Voice Effects for voice notes in direct messages. This allows users to apply various creative filters to alter the sound of their recorded voice messages while keeping the original rhythm, tone, and emotion intact. The feature is now available in India and can be used in any DM (direct message) conversation.
Instagram users now have access to eight distinct AI-backed voice effects to make their replies more creative and funny: Chipmunk, Alien, Demon, Robot, Stadium, Wobble, Underwater, and Fishbowl. After applying an effect, the name of the selected filter appears on the voice note. There's also an option to revert to the unaltered original voice through the Original button.
To use Instagram's AI Voice Effects, open the app, go to a DM thread, tap the voice note recording button, access the AI Voice Effects option below the recording interface, record your message, select and preview one of the voice effects, and send the message to the recipient. Recipients can also tap it to preview the AI voice filter, mimic the effect, and reuse the same effect in their reply.
This update is the latest in Instagram's expanding collection of AI-driven tools and features for users. Of note, recent reports indicate that the platform is developing an AI feature tentatively named “Create My Likeness.” It would enable users to generate images and videos based on text prompts and incorporate their own or someone else's likeness, potentially functioning as an advanced face swap capability.
