OpenAI is preparing to launch a new feature for its popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT, called “naughty chats.” The feature comes as the company explores making the chatbot more “human-like” in its interactions.
ChatGPT is widely used around the world for tasks such as comparing options, boosting productivity, and researching topics. The new function will reportedly allow users to engage in more adult-themed conversations with the AI chatbot, while considering age verification standards.
In ChatGPT v1.2026.055, Android Authority has discovered code strings, which suggest that the Sam Altman-led company might allow users to remove some of the language currently enforced in the AI chatbot.
"This setting lets ChatGPT use spicier, adult-themed language, when you ask. Available to users 18+ only," the report stated.

The report states that this setting toggle removes some of the language and behavioural guardrails that currently remain in place in ChatGPT. But this will stay restricted to those over 18 years of age.
Android Authority further stated that the “naughty chats” toggle could use ChatGPT's newly released age-prediction tool to determine whether the user is under or over the age of 18. For this, the latest tool utilises a combination of factors, such as how long the account has existed, times of day when someone remains active on the platform as well as consider usage patterns and stated age.
If the user thinks they have been incorrectly placed in this age group, then they will be required to take a selfie and submit it to Persona - a third-party identity-verification service - to get into the over-18 age group.
In October last year, Altman noted that ChatGPT's erotica mode will not be activated unless a user asks for it. This means that the user will have to manually enable the toggle and then ask the AI chatbot for intimate conversation.
In December (2025), as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults," Altman wrote.
In the comments section, one X user asked, "Why do age-gates always have to lead to erotica?"
To this, Altman replied, "You won't get it unless you ask for it."
As of now, there is no official word on when ChatGPT plans to introduce the new “naughty chats” toggle.
