Tech giant Google on Tuesday launched its Gemini AI app in India, with support for nine Indian languages. Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai shared the development through a post on social media platform X.
"Exciting news! Today, we're launching the Gemini mobile app in India, available in English and 9 Indian languages. We're also adding these local languages to Gemini Advanced, along with other new features, and launching Gemini in Google Messages in English," Pichai wrote.
The Gemini mobile app supports English and nine Indian languages: Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

Users can access Gemini by downloading the app on Android devices or through Google Assistant. The app also boasts a host of features including setting reminders, making calls, and receiving contextual assistance directly on the users' screens.
Gemini Advanced, the paid version, also supports Indian languages and comes with enhanced capabilities like document uploads for analysis and data visualisation, catering to advanced user needs in fields ranging from business analytics to academic research.
AdvertisementOn iOS, users will be able to access Gemini directly from the Google app over the next few weeks, the company said in a blog post.
Notably, Gemini Advanced is available to users at Rs 1,950 per month with an initial two-month free trial.
This update follows Google's rebranding of its AI chatbot Bard to Gemini, a move aimed at consolidating its AI offerings under a unified brand.
AdvertisementThis transition occurred approximately four months ago, marking Gemini as the primary brand for all current and forthcoming AI initiatives by Google. The company has also launched the Gemini app in Turkey, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
