AI Impact Summit: Google Launches America-India Connect Initiative, $60M Grants, New DeepMind Partnerships

Google announced a plethora of major initiatives at the AI  India Impact Summit, which include new partnerships and programmes with public entities and researchers to provide infrastructure in service of their aid, according to a post from the multinational digital giant on the social media platform 'X'.

The firm announced the America-India Connect initiative, which will provide new strategic fiber-optic routes to boost digital connectivity between the US, India and multiple other locations across the southern hemisphere.

Google will also allocate $30 million for the 'Government Innovation Impact Challenge', which is expected to support organizations around the world that are changing public services via AI. The firm has earmarked another $30 million for the 'AI for Science Impact Challenge', which is to support researchers globally who are using AI to make scientific breakthroughs.

The company's AI arm GoogleDeepMind will also partner with Indian government bodies and local institutions focused on science and education, as part of Google DeepMind's broader 'National Partnerships for AI initiative'. The company will work with governments to expand access to frontier AI capabilities for "national priorities".

It also announced a partnership with 'Karmayogi Bharat' (an initiative to move from rule-based to role-based governance) to accelerate Mission Karmayogi's vision of building a "future-ready civil service."

Google also announced updates to its products, including the new live speech-to-speech translation model, new self-study features and JEE Main practice tests in its GeminiApp for students in India.

The company's chief executive officer Sundar Pichai presented its latest project in India at the India AI Impact Summit, a Rs 1,24,500 crore AI hub in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Google's largest artificial-intelligence investment outside the United States.

The hub will deliver gigawatt-scale compute, clean-energy powered data centres and a major subsea cable gateway, turning Vizag into a global AI connectivity and compute hotspot.
