Under 19 World Cup Semi Finals: Qualification Scenarios

Group 1: Behind Australia, the fight for the second semi-final spot is still wide open, with many teams in the mix.
Afghanistan are currently at second spot, with two wins from three matches and a net run rate (NRR) of +1.020. Sri Lanka are third and also have two wins from three, but their NRR is much lower at -0.18. Both teams are on four points, and their semi-final chances will depend on the final results and net run rate.

If Sri Lanka win against South Africa in their Super Six match on Thursday, then they will move to 2nd place with six points. This means Afghanistan will have to beat Ireland to qualify for the semis.

West Indies also have a slim chance. They have won two of their four matches, but they don't control their own fate. To qualify, they would need both Afghanistan and Sri Lanka to lose heavily, allowing the NRR to swing in their favour.

South Africa and Ireland have been eliminated.

Super Six Group 1 Remaining matches:

  1. South Africa Vs Sri Lanka: Jan. 29, 1 p.m. IST
  2. Afghanistan Vs Ireland: Jan. 30, 1 p.m. IST

Group 2: India and England are in strong positions after picking up important wins. Both teams have won all three of their Super Six matches so far. India currently sit at the top of the group with an NRR of +3.337. England are in second spot with an NRR of +1.989. A win in their remaining games would seal a semi-final spot. Even with a narrow defeat, they could still go through depending on other results.

Pakistan are still mathematically in the race, but they need a big NRR turnaround to reach the semi-finals. They have won two of their three Super Six matches so far and currently have an NRR of +1.484. They will need a big win against India and will also be keeping a close eye on England's game against New Zealand. If teams end up level on points, net run rate could be the deciding factor.

Bangladesh, New Zealand and Zimbabwe are out of the semi-final race.
