The Board of Control for Cricket in India said on Friday that the Indian Premier League has been suspended for one week. This decision comes amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, which could impact the safety and security of players and spectators.

The suspension follows the abrupt cancellation of the IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals on Thursday, May 8, 2025. The match, held in hill town Dharamshala, was halted midway after air raid alerts were issued in neighbouring cities of Jammu and Pathankot.

The Punjab side was 122 for 1 in 10.1 overs when the lights went out, initially attributed to floodlight failure. The game, which had already started late due to rain, was eventually called off, and teams and spectators were evacuated for their safety.
