FIFA has appointed an all-Argentine team to officiate the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarterfinal between France and Morocco, a decision that has sparked discussion ahead of one of the tournament's most anticipated Knockout matches.
Argentine referee Yael Falcón Pérez will take charge of the match, with fellow Argentines Maximiliano Del Yesso and Facundo RodrÃguez serving as assistant referees.
The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) team will also include Argentine officials, making it an entirely Argentine officiating crew for the fixture.

The appointment has attracted many eyeballs because Argentina remain in contention in the tournamnent, leading some observers to question whether the selection could create a perception of conflict of interest.
Even though FIFA appoints referees independently based on experience, performance and neutrality.
The development also prompted a reaction from France defender Dayot Upamecano, who was asked about FIFA's decision ahead of the quarterfinal.
While acknowledging that the appointment had generated debate, Upamecano stressed that the French squad remains "focused" on its preparations rather than the match officials.
France head into the knockout clash as one of the favourites after another impressive campaign, while Morocco have continued their remarkable run with disciplined performances and resilient defending. The North African side will be aiming to reach another historic milestone by overcoming the defending champions.
FIFA has not indicated any concerns over the appointment, with the governing body continuing its established process of assigning officials for World Cup matches based on merit and eligibility.

With a place in the semifinals at stake, the spotlight will remain firmly on the players, although the appointment of an all-Argentine refereeing team has added another talking point ahead of the high-profile encounter.
This is especially in focus as it was Argentina who beat France in the previous World Cup final in 2022. The thrilling match, which ended 3-3 after extra-time, was won by Lionel Messi's team in a penalty shootout.
There has been some bad blood between the two sides ever since.
