Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Rovman Powell did not hold back while commenting on the row over opener Finn Allen being adjudged out in the game between LSG and KKR at the Eden Gardens, indicating that it was an "umpiring blunder".
In the IPL match on Thursday night, Allen attempted a six against pacer Prince Yadav but ended up edging the ball to third-man where he was caught by Digvesh Rathi. As Rathi stood very close to the boundary padding, the on-field umpires asked the third-umpire to check if Rathi's feet were in contact with the padding when the ball was in his hand.
Third-umpire checked several angles of the replays and a few of them did suggest that Rathi might have touched the boundary. Despite that, the third umpire's decision went in Lucknow's favour and Allen was given out! The call did not go down well with KKR.
"Definitely (more angles should have been looked at). We talked about that when he came off," Rovman told the media in the post-match press conference.
"We thought we had seen in the IPL that the umpires have gone upstairs for lesser things, and that is not as close as that. Maybe it was a blunder on their part, but we're not going to look into that and say that is what cost us two points tonight," he said.
"It's very disappointing. You want to make Kolkata, you want to make Eden Gardens as your fortress. It's your home, it's your home where you have your fans behind you. So it always feels good to win at home. But, unfortunately, tonight we weren't able to," said Powell.
"A lot of credit has to be given to the boys. I think after scoring 181, we believed that we could have won the game. But credit to the youngster, he batted really well," he explained.
