- Gift Nifty signals a gap-down start for Nifty 50 and Sensex on Wednesday
- Asian markets showed mixed trends with gains in Japan and South Korea, losses in Hong Kong
The selloff in the Indian stock market is expected to continue Wednesday, as a surge in crude oil prices weigh on investor risk-appetite amid the escalating US-Iran war in the Middle East. The trends on Gift Nifty also signal a gap-down start for the Indian benchmark indices, Nifty 50 and Sensex, today.
The Gift Nifty was trading around 23,657 level, a discount of nearly 92 points from the Nifty futures' previous close.
“Indian equities are likely to remain under pressure amid weak global cues, elevated crude prices and continued concerns over supply disruptions following the latest escalation in US-Iran hostilities around the Strait of Hormuz,” said Siddhartha Khemka - Head of Research, Wealth Management, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd.
