The GIFT Nifty, an early indicator for the benchmark Nifty 50, is up 0.38% at 24,200 as of 6:40 a.m. Equity-index futures for the US (S&P 500) and Europe (Euro Stoxx 50) rose 0.22% and 1.83% respectively.
India Market Recap
Indian equity benchmarks recovered from deeper intraday losses but ended lower amid expiry-led volatility. The Nifty 50 closed 0.36% lower at 24,032.80, while the Sensex fell 0.33% to 77,017.79.Intraday, the Nifty was down as much as 0.95%, while the Sensex declined up to 0.94%. Positive global cues and a decline in Brent crude prices helped indices pare losses toward the close.
US Market Recap
Stocks rose amid signs that a US-Iran ceasefire is still in place reduced fears about a full-scale war that could hamper the economic outlook. The jump in equities drove the S&P 500 to all time highs after tensions eased between US and Iran, a day after Strait of Hormuz linked tensions escalated. The broad index closed 0.81% higher at 7,259.2 points, while Nasdaq 100 ended 1.31% higher.
Asian Market Update
South Korea drove gains in the region, rising up to 5.8% to 7,338.61. The index has surged over 70% this year. The Kosdaq index fluctuated between gains and losses to trade 0.2% lower. South Korea's benchmark Kospi index crossed the 7,000 mark for the first time on Wednesday as markets across Asia advanced after signs of easing tensions in the Middle East.
Australia's S&P/ASX 200 advanced 0.58%, while Hong Kong Hang Seng futures traded at 25,860. Japanese markets were shut for a public holiday.
Commodity Check
Oil prices dropped for a second straight sessio as signs of diplomatic progress between the US and Iran emerged. Brent crude traded $108 a barrel after falling 4% in the previous session, while West Texas Intermediate hovered near $100. Gold continued its rally, with thw bullion trading at around $4,590 an ounce, following 0.8% jump on Tuesday.
