Sensex, Nifty Fall Dragged By IT, Power Stocks: Midday Market Update

India's stock benchmarks declined, dragged by losses in information technology, utilities, and power.

The Sensex declined 0.20% to 60,784.25 on the BSE, while the Nifty 50 fell by 0.23% to 18,040.75 on the NSE. Among Nifty 50 constituents, 20 stocks gained while 30 fell.

Tech Mahindra Ltd., Hindalco Industries Ltd., Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd., Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and Eicher Motors Ltd. were the top losers, while Bajaj Auto Ltd., Axis Bank Ltd., Bharti Airtel Ltd., State Bank of India, and UPL LTd. were the top gainers on Nifty 50.

The broader indices outperformed their larger peers with the mid-cap and the small-cap gauges gaining 0.19% and 0.02%, respectively. The large cap almost mirrored its large peers and declined 0.23%

Thirteen of the 19 sectoral measures complied by BSE Ltd. declined with information & technology, utilities and power losing over 1%.

The market breadth is skewed in favour of the bulls. About 1,737 stocks rose, 1,599 fell and 140 remained unchanged.
