Sensex, Nifty Fall As Auto, Telecom Stocks Decline: Midday Market Update

India's stock benchmarks sustained losses, dragged by decline in auto and telecommunication stocks.

The Sensex declined 0.33% to 60,919.51 on the BSE. The 30-share gauge had reclaimed the 61,000-mark on Tuesday. The Nifty 50 fell by 0.31% to 18,088.60 on the NSE. Among Nifty 50 constituents, 16 stocks rose while 34 declined.

Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd., Bharti Airtel Ltd., Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., Eicher Motors Ltd. and Titan Co. were the top losers, while Hindalco Industries Ltd., Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd., Coal India Ltd., and ITC Ltd. were the top gainers on Nifty 50.

The broader indices outperformed their larger peers with the mid cap losing 0.05% and the small cap gaining 0.23%. Fifteen of the 20 the sectoral measures complied of BSE Ltd. declined with auto losing over 1%.

The market breadth is skewed in favour of the bulls. About 1,769 stocks rose, 1,570 fell and 161 remained unchanged.
